In our website, we try to give just a flavour of our small Independent School, its special Ethos, its unique and innovative Curriculum and its After-School care and activities.  Unusually, we welcome part-time pupils not only to our After-School Activities but to our main Curriculum , too.  Click on the buttons on the left for fuller information - or even better, visit our School or book a Taster Day for your child.  Nothing beats talking to pupils and parents to get the real story behind the website and it's a measure of the close partnership between School and Parents that all our current Parents have offered to chat to prospective parents - get the lowdown direct!

MORAY FIRTH SCHOOL

was founded by its Principal, Anni Cole-Hamilton, in 2002 and is on its way to all-through education for ages 5-18.

Currently we are a
JUNIOR SCHOOL, nurturing our younger pupils through Primary Years 1 to 4, and a MIDDLE SCHOOL, unique in the Highlands in offering education without a gap between primary and secondary, a seamless curriculum for Primary 5-Secondary 2.  With specialist teaching throughout, children can progress as far and as fast in a subject as they able.  Middle School is designed to suit entry particularly at Year 5, or at Year 8, post-primary, but children can enrol at any stage.

PROGRESS TOWARDS ALL-THROUGH EDUCATION FOR AGES 5-18

Since inception, we've had clear targets for opening each stage:

  • 2002 Junior School founded
  • 2005 Lower Middle School founded
  • 2008 Upper Middle School will open
  • 2010 Senior School planned

And on target, FROM AUTUMN 2008, ALL CHILDREN ENROLLING AT ANY STAGE FROM PRIMARY 1-SECONDARY 1, and possibly also S2, WILL BE ABLE TO STUDY ALL-THROUGH TO TO SIXTH FORM

What do we mean when we say that children enrolling at S2 this autumn might possibly also be able to stay on to sixth form?

Since 2002, we have "rolled forward" to put each Year group in place as our oldest pupils reached that stage.  However, when in 2005 we first opened our Lower Middle School (P5-7),  a small group of parents asked us to start secondary education at the same time, ahead of schedule.  They knew that their children would have to complete their schooling elsewhere but wanted the experience of one or two years at Moray Firth School first.  This proved very successful, with our "graduates" moving on to Ampleforth, Glenalmond and local State Schools.

We are now teaching our third S1 class and if enough pupils enrol either this Session at S1 level or next Session at S2 level,
we've promised to open exam courses early, in 2009.   We'd need a total of just 10 pupils to do this.  Imagine such a small class, with such individual attention, such thorough preparation for exam courses!

If you'd like to know more, please phone Mrs Cole-Hamilton.

TEMPORARY OR PART-TIME ENROLMENT

From the start, a number of families have opted to send their child for Moray Firth School for just one year, for a specific reason, often to do with confidence-building.  This has been very successful.

Our School also welcomes families living temporarily in the Highlands.  Often, such families are from abroad or regularly living there.  They see real advantages in a small independent school that can offer flexibility and an individual approach to each child,  doing everything possible to help new pupils settle in quickly and fruitfully, liaising with past and future schools and preparing children for the next move.

Unusually, part-time pupils are also welcome.  Home-schoolers, for example, who prefer to undertake much of their children's education themselves, often actively seek out other experiences and opportunities for their children, including enjoying just part of our School's main or extra-curricular programme.

ETHOS:
warmly encouraging, and praised by HM Inspectors of Education in their 2006 Report.  Many of our children arrive early and don't want to go home at night!
Friendly, approachable staff and a Principal who has an Open Door policy, a close partnership between Parents and School and great children combine to make us the happy little School we are.  Please click on ETHOS to find out more.

OUT OF SCHOOL TUITION
