E T H O S
We've published here our pupils' own sChOOL RULES. They drew them up after long discussions about what mattered to them, in school and in life. We think they fairly sum up everything we ALL try to do at Moray Firth School, pupils, staff and parents.
You'll see that we believe in the 3 Rs - to find out about the more traditional idea of the 3 Rs, click on JUNIOR or MIDDLE or SENIOR SCHOOL curriculum info!

We have R I G H T S
We have the right to feel and be safe at School
We can rely on each other for help when we need it
We can rely on our teachers
We can expect our teachers to care for us and our learning
We can expect our teachers to help us when we have a problem
Our School is a PARTNERSHIP
between PUPILS, TEACHERS and PARENTS.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEACHER?
A good teacher
rewards and praises us
listens well and draws out all pupils’ opinions
wants us to do well and has high standards and expectations
helps us enjoy the subject taught and want to learn more
is fair
is fun (at least some of the time!)
WHAT MAKES A GOOD PUPIL?
A good pupil
takes responsibility for his learning, his work and his behaviour
is a Smart Learner
works quietly (when required) in the classroom, putting up his hand to answer a question rather than shouting out
tries to contribute to discussions and other group work
behaves responsibly (most of the time!)
listens to others’ ideas and treats them respectfully
prepares for classes carefully and does his or her homework conscientiously.
We think Moray Firth School has good teachers
and we try to be good pupils.
WE KNOW THAT EVEN IN A HAPPY SCHOOL,
THINGS CAN SOMETIMES GO WRONG . . .
If we have an accident or get hurt, we will go to a teacher or ask a friend to get our teacher to help us.
If someone hurts us, physically or verbally, we will ask him or her to stop. We can expect the other person to stop at once. If he or she doesn’t stop, that is BULLYING and we don’t allow bullying here. If someone is bullying us, we have a 3-step plan:
1. We’ll ask him or her why he or she is behaving in this way towards us, we’ll explain how it makes us feel and we’ll suggest we do something positive together, to help be friends again.
2. If this doesn’t work, or we feel unable to do these things, we can ask a friend to help us work things out with the other person.
3. If this doesn’t work, or we feel unable to do this, we will explain the problem to a teacher:
We can expect our teachers to help and not ignore the problem
Our teacher will talk to the other pupil and to us and try to resolve the problem
If the problem continues, the teacher might speak also to the other child’s parents
And do anything else that will encourage a bully to understand the error of his or her ways.
If anything goes wrong at School or in our lives generally, we can talk to Mrs Cole-Hamilton or one of our teachers or our parents.
We know that Mrs Cole-Hamilton has an Open Door and we can talk to her at any time.
When we talk to Mrs Cole-Hamilton or a teacher, we know that, usually, she or he will keep everything private between us. But we understand that sometimes the teacher might need to talk to other people in order to help us. Our teacher will explain this to us at the time and discuss it with us.
If a teacher is making us unhappy or is treating us unfairly, we can talk to Mrs Cole-Hamilton or our parents and ask for help.
If our problem is with Mrs Cole-Hamilton, we can talk to another teacher or our parents and ask them to speak to Mrs Cole-Hamilton, who will do her best to put matters right.
We all know that talking things through is a good way to solve problems. We won’t keep our worries secret but explain them to each other, our teachers or our parents.
